Hausbau
A downloadable game
Hausbau is a tiny puzzle game for the playdate.
The concept is simple: Build modernist cityscapes by place random tiles while listening to jazzy tunes.
This game was inspired by a visit at the Bauhaus-Museum in Weimar.
Zen Mode
Place tiles without worries. No points, no goal. Just watch your city grow.
- A ... place tile
- B ... flip tile
- Crank ... scroll map
View Mode
From the menu in Zen Mode you can swap to View mode where you can view the current state of your city without distractions.
- A ... replay
- B ... invert colors
- Crank ... scroll map
But if your are in the mood for some light puzzles you can also choose High Score Mode.
High Score Mode
Place tiles to earn points. The better they fit into the existing city, the more points you get (ranging from 0–100). If you manage to place a tile into a perfect spot, where it is surrounded on all sides, you will also get 2 additional tiles. There is also a preview of the next tile, which you can reroll with the crank, providing opportunities for strategic placement..
- A ... place tile
- B ... flip tile
- Crank ... reroll next tile

Beautiful graphics and presentation. Is there any way to win or lose?
Hey! Right now, it's just a simple sandbox—no goals, nothing to win or lose. However, I'm currently working on an update that will introduce a high-score mode. It should be available soon (hopefully in a few weeks). I also have some additional ideas, but I need to see how much time I can dedicate to this project.
Wonderful. I look forward to that :)
Me and my wife have dumped a surprising amount of time into this in the last couple days. It is so meditative and delightful.
Are you done developing it? A few more features and I feel like you have one of the best things on the Playdate. I would love an undo or a mode where you could dump a tile you didn't like. Maybe like in Tetris where you can store a piece or two for later?
It would also be fun to have a mode where, when you overlap, the overlapped bit of the new tile doesn't place or gets placed behind the previous tile. It would make it so you could combine tiles in new and interesting ways.
That said, keep the base mode just the way it is. It's perfect. Love the game!
Thank you so much for your feedback (and for giving me some ideas!). I’m definitely not done with the game and have some new ideas in mind. I just need to find the time to work on them. But comments like this really help boost my motivation :D
Really glad you enjoy the game!
I would love a way to undo moves. Otherwise this is a really cool relaxing little creative game.
Thank you for playing! I definitely see the potential for an undo functionality in the future.
great game, though I did spot that if you use the pause menu options on the main menu, the game crashes. that said, it's a very niche complaint that's easily avoided
Thank you so much for playing and letting me know about the menu issue! Not sure how this got past me, but I fixed it and uploaded the new version (v1.0.1).
